Websites and Knowledge on Oernoe Search

The Search page says you can switch between Websites and Knowledge. Tonight I am going to teach that sentence, not a panel I did not open.

Wednesday, September 2, 2026, evening Mountain Time. I fetched search.oernoe.com without logging in. The tab title was Oernoe Search. The heading said a little curiosity and a world to find. It said search websites, people, and ideas. Lower on the same public page it said keep exploring Websites and knowledge. In the tips it said narrow your results: switch between Websites and Knowledge, or choose a category. At the bottom it said results come from websites and knowledge entries in the Oernoe index, and that not every page on the web is indexed. That is the inventory I actually have. I did not click the switch. I did not choose a category. I did not watch a panel redraw. I will not invent a sidebar of cards or a list of fields I did not see.

This journal lives on www.oernoe.com. Selected finished pages on this hostname may show Google ads. I will not claim there are no ads. Lookups still go to search.oernoe.com. If you are reading this on www, you are in the publisher. The switch, if it is real on your Search tab, is not here.

## Read the bar, then a dummy, then the copy

Type search.oernoe.com. If the bar says www.oernoe.com, you are still in journal, guides, or How-To. Close this when you want Search. If the bar says account.oernoe.com, you are at login. The switch does not need a password. On a chair you do not own, do not type one.

If the bar is a lookalike, close it.

mail.oernoe.com does not resolve. news.oernoe.com does not resolve. app.oernoe.com does not resolve. Do not wait for Mail, News, or a store app to explain Websites and Knowledge. The sentence lived on Search tonight.

Type a dummy before you hunt a switch. weather boise is a dummy. oernoe search is a dummy. If the dummy fails, you do not have a Websites versus Knowledge problem. You have a tab problem, a network problem, or an outage. Look at the host. Then status.oernoe.com if the box itself is sick. Tracker is tracker.oernoe.com and may ask you to sign in. I will not paste last week's uptime as if it were still true tonight.

Do not paste the dummy into AI to classify it as website or knowledge. Do not paste it into Chat. The page already used both words. You can read.

## What the public copy actually said

Search websites, people, and ideas. That is a job description in one line. It is not a promise that every person has a profile in our index. It is not a promise that every idea has a card. It is the kind of work Search is for: public lookups, not your private Drive pile.

Keep exploring Websites and knowledge. I saw that as a line on the public page. I did not treat it as a screenshot of two populated columns. Exploring is the verb. Websites and knowledge are the two buckets the copy named.

Switch between Websites and Knowledge, or choose a category. A switch. A category. I did not click either. I will not tell you which one is a tab, a toggle, or a pill. If you see a control that matches those words, that is the control. If you do not see it, you still have the box. Type.

Results come from websites and knowledge entries. Two sources named. Websites are pages. Knowledge entries are whatever Oernoe is calling the other kind of record in that index. I did not open one. I will not list attributes. I will not say it is Wikipedia. I will not say it is a people directory you should use to hunt a classmate. People appeared in the heading as a kind of curiosity, not as a license to stalk.

Not every page on the web is indexed. That line sits next to the two-source sentence on purpose. Even the Websites bucket is not the whole web. The Knowledge bucket is not a complete encyclopedia I can certify from a GET. If your dummy comes back thin, that can be the index, not a missing click.

The same page also printed the two typing tips: site:example.com before keywords, and quotes around an exact phrase such as space exploration. Those are typing tricks. They are not the switch. Do not confuse a site: dummy with a Knowledge click I did not perform. I taught the typing tricks in another how-to. Here I am staying with the two named result sources.

Press / anywhere outside a text field to jump back to search. That is a keyboard line. It is not a category. I did not test it inside this article.

## What I will not pretend the switch does

I will not pretend I know what the Websites view hides. I will not pretend I know what the Knowledge view adds. I did not click it. Teaching from a guess is how we end up correcting the journal later.

I will not pretend a category list. The copy said or choose a category. I did not see the names of the categories in the fetch I am willing to stand behind as a clicked UI. If your live page shows category words, read those words. I will not invent Sports, Shopping, News, or Images as labels I confirmed tonight. The publisher How-To page has leftover language about filters. This post is not that page. I am not patching How-To. I am not patching /legal/privacy or /legal/cookies.

I will not pretend Knowledge is a safe place to paste a medical file. I will not pretend Websites is a safe place to paste a password. Both still go through the same box. Dummy first. Short public words. No secrets.

I will not pretend the switch logs you in. I will not pretend it is Account or Health. health.oernoe.com is a different host for notes you choose to keep, and it is not a doctor. Chat, AI, Docs, and Drive are their own hosts. None of those are the Websites and Knowledge line on Search.

I will not treat Maps, Music, Studio, or Mail as the Knowledge panel. Mail is not released. The notice is at /mail on www and is not a product you can join.

I will not claim the switch makes results free of ads as a slogan. Search is in the services directory. The publisher said those apps do not load ads, and that Google ads appear on selected finished pages on www. That split is a host split.

## How to use the sentence without a click I did not do

You already have a working method even if you never find the switch.

Decide the job in ordinary language. If you want a page on a site you know, that is the Websites half of the copy, and the typing tip for that job is site:example.com before keywords, dummy first on example.com. If you want words kept together, quotes. If you want a short public question and you do not care which kind of record answers, type the short question and read what comes back. The footer already said both kinds of records can appear.

If a result looks like a normal web page, treat it like a web page. Open it or skip it. If it wants a login, do not type an Oernoe password into a stranger's form. That is a different how-to. Short version: come back, try the next link, try another engine.

If a result looks like a short entry instead of a full article, that may be what the copy meant by a knowledge entry. I am saying may. I did not click through a labeled Knowledge mode. Do not take my maybe as a schema. Read the words on the result. If they are thin, they are thin. If they are wrong, they are wrong. Retry. Do not dump the entry into AI to expand it into medical advice.

If you cannot tell which kind of result you are looking at, that is fine. The page did not require you to label them. It offered a switch to narrow. Narrow is optional. Optional is not mandatory. A first page that mixes sources is still a first page. Rank it with your eyes.

If you do click the switch on your machine, stay on search.oernoe.com. Watch the bar. If the bar moves to account or to www, you left Search. If the bar moves to a lookalike, close it. I still will not describe the panel, because I did not click it.

Choose a category only if you can read the category name. Do not pick a category because a blog said Oernoe has News. news.oernoe.com does not resolve. A category, if it exists on Search, is still Search, not a News product.

## What does not belong in either bucket

A plumber you hoped a journal index would magically know. That job is a web lookup. Type it on Search after a dummy. Do not type it into /blog.

A password, a recovery code, a card number, a student's grade, a lab result with a name. Neither Websites nor Knowledge is a vault. Do not site: those. Do not quote those. Do not switch modes as if the second mode were encrypted.

A file you already uploaded is Docs or Drive. I did not open those screens for this post. A conversation is Chat. A draft is Docs or AI, and still should not carry secrets. Search is not a laundromat for a thread.

A legal question about our own cookies is /legal/cookies on www. Privacy is /legal/privacy. I am not rewriting those pages from a Search switch.

## When to leave, when to file

If the dummy works and the real query is junk, retry once. Add a year or a place as ordinary words if that is the job. Use site: or quotes if the Search page already taught those and they fit. If you still need an answer today, open a second engine. I will not name a winner. I will not invent a percent.

If you expected a Knowledge card for a person and did not get one, stop hunting the person. The heading mentioned people as a kind of search, not as a dossier service I will coach. Public pages exist. This how-to will not walk a stalk.

If the box is blank, spinning, or the dummy never returns, write the host and the time. Mountain Time. Dummy failed is enough. Do not paste a query you would not read in a cafe. hello@oernoe.com is on the public pages. Use a title, not a novel.

The honest lesson is the copy: two named sources in one index, a switch and a category offered as a way to narrow, and an admission that the web is not fully indexed. That is already enough to search like an adult. You do not need me to draw a panel I never opened.
