Wednesday, September 2, 2026, about 10:30 PM MT. I opened search.oernoe.com as a guest. I did not click Sign in. Header: Skip to content, Oernoe Search, Sign in. Hero: A little curiosity. A world to find. Search websites, people, and ideas. The box. Tab title: Oernoe Search. I stayed a guest.

This page is on www.oernoe.com. Selected finished pages may show Google ads. An ad that says site: is not the Search box. An ad that says example is not Find a website. Read the Search host if you meant to run the tip that is already printed there.

I did not hunt a hidden operators manual. I did not invent minus. I did not invent OR. I did not invent filetype. I did not invent a date picker. The live Search home tonight printed the tricks it wanted me to see.

Find a website / site:example.com is the live example on this paint. I opened Search tips as well. The drawer repeated the same host pattern in longer copy: Search a specific website. Add site:example.com before your keywords. Keep words together used quotes. Narrow your results mentioned Websites and Knowledge, or a category. Jump back to search mentioned /. Then: Results come from websites and knowledge entries in the Oernoe index. Not every page on the web is indexed.

The assignment was to run the public tip site: as printed. Prefer site:oernoe.com plus a short word, or site:example.com if that is the printed example. The live home printed site:example.com. I ran site:example.com. I did not swap in a different host to make the list prettier. I did not turn this into a catalog of other products. Quotes are a different tip. I am not running quotes in this post.

The box is the same box I use for a short public word. site: is characters inside it. It is not a second form. It is not Sign in. It is not Filters.

I did not click Sign in. /sign-in is Account.

## I ran site:example.com as a guest

I put the printed operator in the box. The characters were site:example.com, no extra keyword, because the home example is the host pattern by itself. I submitted it.

The click did something visible. The bar went to https://search.oernoe.com/results?q=site%3Aexample.com. The colon survived as %3A. Tab title: Search Results - Oernoe Search. Host: search.oernoe.com. Path: /results. Heading: Results for site:example.com. I was still a guest. Sign in stayed in the header. I did not follow it.

type= did not appear. All had aria-current="page". Websites and Knowledge were present and not current. Filters sat aria-expanded false. Sort still offered Relevance and A to Z. I did not change sort. I did not open Filters. site: is not a Category. Category is a drawer on a result set. site: is characters in q=.

The count line said 1 result in the Oernoe index. That is the count I am writing down. I am not inventing a second row. I am not inventing a knowledge panel I did not have on this query.

Exact list UI tonight, the first and only title: example.com / example.com / Example Site. Snippet: An example website. The outbound title is an with target _blank and rel noopener noreferrer, href https://example.com/. I am naming the row. I did not need to leave Search to prove the count. One row is one row.

AI Overview still sat above the list on All: A summary of these results, with links to the sources. Generate overview was enabled. I did not click it on this query. This post is the site: tip, not a second overview sitting. There was no knowledge aside on the right for this result the way q=Oernoe had About Oernoe. Related searches were not on this paint. Pagination was not on this paint. Previous, Page 1 of 2, and Next did not appear. One result does not need a second page.

An indexed example host is still Search. It is not Search-down. It is not Account. It is not a claim that every page on example.com is in the index. The home already said not every page on the web is indexed. Tonight the index had one website row for this operator.

Do not file a ranking paper because site:example.com returned one row. The public tip used a public example host. The index answered with that host. That is the lesson.

## What the count and title are for

Write the count. Write the first titles. Tonight: 1 result in the Oernoe index. First title: Example Site. Host shown: example.com. Snippet: An example website. Stop there for the list. Do not invent Wikipedia. Do not invent a news row. Do not invent a second example.com path. I had one.

If your night prints 0 results in the Oernoe index on the same printed example, quote the empty copy. Empty is allowed. Empty is not an outage by itself. The same Search tips drawer already warned that not every page is indexed. Quote No matches this time if that is what you got. I did not get that. I got one.

If your night prints site:oernoe.com on the home instead of site:example.com, run that printed host, plus a short public word if the tip wants keywords after the host. My home did not print site:oernoe.com. I did not run site:oernoe.com journal as a substitute. Substituting would have been a different query than the one on the hero.

Put the site: piece first, because that is how the page wrote it: before your keywords. Tonight I did not add a keyword after the host because the compact hero example is the host alone. The longer drawer said add site:example.com before your keywords. I am not inventing a lab on whether the engine also accepts the host at the end. Before the keywords is the instruction I actually saw.

## What this is not

It is not a quoted phrase. Match a phrase is the other compact tip. I left the quotes on the home.

It is not the Knowledge tab. All stayed current. One website row is a website row.

It is not Filters. It is not Generate overview. The button was there. I left it.

It is not Account. Header Sign in is /sign-in. The site: result stayed on /results. Do not submit Account forms because you wanted more than one row from example.com.

It is not Chat. Do not paste site:example.com into Chat as if Chat were the index. The page already counted 1.

It is not a walkthrough of other product hostnames. Tonight q= was site:example.com. The list was Example Site.

I did not measure how many hosts are in the index. I did not claim Search is ad-free.

## What not to put after site:

Do not paste a password, an API key, or a recovery phrase after site:. The box will accept the characters. Acceptance is not permission.

Do not type site: plus a payroll host plus an employee name. The operator narrows the public index. It does not log you in. It does not make a private page public.

Do not use site: to hunt a login. If you already have the URL, type it in the address bar. account.oernoe.com is the door for an Oernoe password. The Search box is not.

Do not paste cookies or Authorization headers into q=.

Do not treat 1 result as a score. It is a count line. Do not file Search-down because you wanted every page on example.com, or because pagination is missing on a one-row list.

If site: plus a real public host returns nothing useful, retry once with fewer words, then try without site: if you no longer care which host answers. I will not invent a percentage of queries we win. Tonight the printed example was enough.

## Shared chairs

If the chair is not yours, use the printed example, not a host from a workplace you should not name. site:example.com is already on the hero. Closing the tab is enough. Do not screenshot the result list onto a shared desktop.

On a lookalike host, close the tab. Do not type a password. Do not type site: either.

## Tickets are the printed tip, the encoded q, and the count

If the home prints a different site: host than example.com, quote that host and run that host. Tonight it had not changed.

If the Example Site link bounces you through a login wall on the destination, that is the destination, not Search. I did not need to follow the outbound link to write the title.
