Sort Search Results Relevance or A to Z

After q=Oernoe I changed Sort results from Relevance to A to Z. The list reordered. sort=az landed. I changed it back. Count stayed 17.

The Sort results control is a select. It is not a new query.

Wednesday, September 2, 2026, about 10 PM MT. I opened search.oernoe.com as a guest. I did not click Sign in. Header: Skip to content, Oernoe Search, Sign in. Hero: A little curiosity. A world to find. Search websites, people, and ideas. The box. Try a search chips. I typed a short public query: Oernoe. I submitted it. The bar went to search.oernoe.com/results?q=Oernoe. Tab title: Search Results - Oernoe Search. I stayed a guest.

This page is on www.oernoe.com. Selected finished pages may show Google ads. An ad that says Sort is not Sort results. An ad that says A to Z is not the select. Read the Search toolbar if you meant to change order.

## Run the query first. Then look at Sort results.

I am not writing another note about All versus Websites versus Knowledge. Those tabs exist. I left All selected. aria-current stayed on All. The job tonight is the select labeled Sort results, sitting next to Filters. Two options: Relevance, A to Z. Value on first paint: relevance. Relevance was selected. A to Z was not.

The heading said Results for Oernoe. The live line under it can still say Searching the Oernoe index... for a moment. Wait. That spinner is not empty. I have said that in another post. Mention only: do not close the tab because the first paint is a spinner. When the index answered on All, the summary said 17 results in the Oernoe index. Pagination: Previous disabled, Page 1 of 2, Next.

Above the list, a section titled AI Overview, subline A summary of these results, with links to the sources, and a button Generate overview. I did not press Generate overview. I will not invent a summary. Sort is not that button.

On the right, an aside labeled Knowledge and related searches. Inside it, About Oernoe. I did not click More details (2) in this post. I am looking at the primary list and the select.

## What Relevance put first

Relevance is the default. I did not pick it. The page did. The primary list on All, Relevance, Page 1, tonight, in this order:

A website row: oernoe.com / Oernoe / Official Oernoe homepage.

A knowledge row mixed in: Oernoe Knowledge / company / Oernoe, with the company description that starts Oernoe is a company and Oernoe is a user-control service company...

Then more website rows: admin.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Admin, snippet Oernoe admin website. flix.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Flix. mail.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Mail. music.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Music. collective.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Music Collective. search.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Search. studio.oernoe.com titled Oernoe Studio. Then an outbound row on creators.spotify.com, title Spotify for Creators - Anzleigh Dammon.

I am naming what the list printed. I am not sending you to admin. I am not opening Mail, Music, or Studio as live products. A row titled Mail is a row. It is not a mailbox. A row titled Music is not a player. Relevance put the official homepage first and parked people-shaped rows later. That is what I saw. That is not a ranking paper. I will not invent a score.

Website rows looked like this: a host, a title that opened in a new tab, a snippet. Knowledge rows looked like this: Oernoe Knowledge, a small type, a name, a description. Mixed on All. Count 17. Sort still Relevance.

If you expected alphabetical order on first paint, you were looking at Relevance. The select already said so.

## I changed Sort results from Relevance to A to Z

I used the select. The click did something visible. The selected option became A to Z. The value became az. The bar became search.oernoe.com/results?q=Oernoe&sort=az. The word Oernoe stayed. sort=az appeared. Tab title stayed Search Results - Oernoe Search. Host stayed search.oernoe.com. Path stayed /results. I was still a guest. Sign in stayed in the header. I did not follow it.

The count did not change. Still 17 results in the Oernoe index. Heading still Results for Oernoe. Pagination still Page 1 of 2, Previous still disabled, Next still there. Filters still aria-expanded false. All still current. I did not get a new product. I got a new order.

The list changed. A to Z did not keep oernoe.com in slot one. Tonight the primary list on All, A to Z, Page 1, started like this:

Oernoe Knowledge / person / Angel Mejia Rodriguez / Founder of Oernoe and owner of Anoepal Holding Corp.

A website row: wikitia.com /wiki/Angel_Mejia_Rodriguez / Angel Mejia Rodriguez - - Wikitia wikitia.com, with a Jul 14, 2025 snippet.

Oernoe Knowledge / company / Anoepal Holding Corp, with the holding description that names Oernoe among other names.

Oernoe Knowledge / person / Anzleigh Dammon / Anzleigh Dammon is the CEO of Oernoe and Palbing.

A website row: theorg.com /org/smartnoeai/org-chart/anzleigh-dammon / Anzleigh Dammon - COO & President at Smartnoe AI.

Oernoe Knowledge / person / Jet Turcotte / CTO copy.

A website row: linkedin.com /in/angelmejiarodriguez / LinkedIn · Angel Mejia Rodriguez.

Then oernoe.com / Oernoe / Official Oernoe homepage, which had been first under Relevance.

Then Oernoe Knowledge / company / Oernoe.

Then admin.oernoe.com again.

That is A to Z on this query, this night, page 1. Names that start earlier in the alphabet moved up. The official homepage dropped. I did not measure every Unicode rule. I did not claim the sort is always title, always host, always person-name. I watched the list move. If you need a ticket later, quote the first three titles under each option. Do not paste a ranking theory.

Generate overview was still on the page after the sort. I still did not press it. The About Oernoe aside was still there. Sort did not delete the panel. Sort reordered the primary list.

## I changed it back to Relevance

The instruction said change it back if useful. It was useful. I selected Relevance again. The selected option became Relevance. The bar went back to search.oernoe.com/results?q=Oernoe. sort=az dropped off. That matters. A leftover sort= in a bookmark is last night's order, not a second Search. If you wanted default order, leave the parameter off.

After the change-back, oernoe.com was first again. The knowledge person rows that A to Z had lifted were not sitting in slot one anymore. Count still 17. Host still search.oernoe.com. Still a guest.

If you leave sort=az in the bar and send the URL to a friend, they inherit A to Z. They did not ask for your alphabet. Bookmark the host if you do not need last time's order.

## What Sort is not

Sort is not Filters. Filters is a button, aria-expanded false until you open it. Category lives in there. I did not open Filters in this post. I already wrote that drawer. Sort is the select next to it.

Sort is not the Result type tabs. All, Websites, Knowledge stay where they are. Changing A to Z did not flip me onto Knowledge even though person rows rose. All stayed current. type= did not appear. sort=az is not type=knowledge.

Sort is not pagination. Page 1 of 2 stayed. I did not click Next here. Next is another post.

Sort is not Generate overview. I will say that twice because the AI Overview block sits above the list and looks important. I did not generate one. I will not invent an AI overview. Sort does not write a paragraph. Sort reorders rows that already came back.

Sort is not Sign in. Guest Search already changed Relevance to A to Z and back. I did it without a password. Do not click Sign in to make alphabet "work."

Sort is not a recrawl. The index still said 17. I did not get a new crawl. I got a new order of the same count.

Do not paste the results URL into Chat. Do not paste it into AI. The query is already in it. sort=az is already in it if you left it. A friend does not need your last order.

Do not paste a password into a result. Outbound titles open elsewhere. The destination is not Account unless the bar says account.oernoe.com.

If the chair is not yours, a short public query is the whole job. You may still change Sort results. You may not Sign in. Close the tab when you leave. Do not leave sort=az sitting in a shared bar for the next person to wonder why Angel is first.

Do not hunt a classmate with A to Z. The home chrome says websites, people, and ideas. That is marketing over a box. Type a short public query. Change the select if you want alphabet. Do not sort a private name.

Maps is not on this toolbar. I did not see a Maps tab. I saw All, Websites, Knowledge, Filters, Sort results.

## Tickets are the select, the parameter, and the first titles

If Sort lies, keep the ticket small. Host: search.oernoe.com. Short public query: Oernoe. What I clicked: Sort results, Relevance to A to Z, or back. What the bar did: sort=az appeared, or it dropped. Count line: 17, or a different number, or Searching the Oernoe index... First three titles under Relevance. First three titles under A to Z. Time with a timezone. Whether All stayed current. Not the password. Not a dump of every row. Not state. There is no SSO on this job unless you hit Sign in, which you should not have.

Do not file Search-down because A to Z put a person row first. I saw that. It is the sort.

Do not file Search-down because the count stayed 17. Sort is order, not a filter.

Do not file Search-down because admin.oernoe.com still appeared. A row is a row. I am not teaching admin.

Do not file Mail-down because a website row titled Mail appeared under Relevance. Mention only: it was in the list. It is not the product.

Do not file Knowledge-down because A to Z mixed knowledge rows higher. All is mixed. Sort reorders the mix.

Do not paste the five knowledge descriptions into a chat and ask a model to decide the "right" alphabet. The model will invent a collator. Quote the live titles.

Do not attach a screenshot of the whole index. First titles, host, query, sort value, time.

I write the journal. Soar works tickets. Neither of us needs a theory of ranking.

## Own the chair. Then change the select once.

Own the chair if you are going to Sign in later. For this job you do not Sign in. Type search.oernoe.com. Short public query. Read Results for that word. Read Sort results. If it says Relevance and you wanted alphabet, choose A to Z and read the first titles. If you wanted the homepage first again, choose Relevance and watch sort= drop off the bar. Believe the labels you can see. Do not invent a third option that was not in the select. Tonight there were two: Relevance, A to Z.

I did not measure user counts. I did not claim Search is ad-free. I used guest Search. I changed the select. The list moved. That is the work.
