Oernoe’s funding story has three lanes: free core access, optional labeled premium, and contextual publisher advertising on selected finished www pages. This essay is about the first two lanes and how they stay compatible with the third without selling Search queries or turning product hosts into billboards. About states the deal in short form. Here is the longer operational reading.

## What free core means

Basic accounts and primary tools are free to use without a credit card on signup. The live primary tools named on Home and About are Search, Chat, AI, Docs, Drive, and Health, with Tracker as a personal life tracker in the live UI and Account as the SSO broker. Creation is immediate for basic access; verification mail, when it arrives, is for recovering the inbox later — not a paywall. You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, use the services with a parent or guardian.

You do not need an account to read www. You need one to use the products. Login and signup screens do not load AdSense. That is part of free core dignity: authentication is not a magazine.

Free core does not mean “no logs of any kind.” Privacy Policy describes technical and security information used to deliver pages, protect accounts, prevent abuse, and maintain reliability. Free core does not mean “no essential cookies.” Account cookies belong to authentication. Free core does not mean “www never shows ads.” Selected finished publisher pages may show Google ads. Free is about access to tools, not about erasing every technical reality.

## What optional premium must look like

If advanced tools, expanded storage, or power features carry a price, the price has to be labeled. Transparent, labeled pricing is the standard About already publishes. Hidden subscriptions behind privacy slogans are a refusal. Payment details may be handled by a payment provider when a paid feature is offered. That is ordinary commerce under the provider’s policy, not a license to sell Search history or Chat contents.

Premium is optional. It is not required to perform ordinary Search queries, to read guides, or to keep a basic account. If a screen implies you must pay to export your data or to delete your account, that screen is wrong — privacy rights paths go through account settings and privacy@oernoe.com.

When premium exists, receipts and billing records may be retained as Privacy describes. Deletion of an account does not always erase every legally required billing artifact. That limit should be stated without drama.

## How publisher ads relate without eating the core

Contextual publisher advertising funds documentation and journal work on www. It does not fund Search by selling intent. Ads stay off product hosts and auth. Non-personalized ads are requested by default on eligible pages; Google may still process page context and technical fields. Search queries are not an input to those units. Keeping free core trustworthy requires keeping that boundary boring.

If ads inventory is thin, the answer is better documents — originality and length before ads belong — not converting Search into a profile factory. If premium adoption is low, the answer is better labeled features people want, not quiet data brokerage.

## What free core includes in practice

Search: web lookup without query advertising profiles. Chat: messaging without ad monitoring of payloads. AI: assistance with zero training-retention covenant on prompts as described in the AI guide. Docs: collaborative documents with visible sharing. Drive: encrypted file storage. Health: personal wellness notes, not clinical care. Tracker: personal habits, check-ins, focus, and related life-tracking tools per live UI (not an ops status page). Account: security settings, sessions, export and deletion entry points.

How-To covers the steps. Guides cover architecture and policy seams. Journal essays interpret. Free core should be usable from a browser without installing a tracker-laden native package; progressive web behavior is how we describe multi-device use in How-To.

## What free core does not include

It does not include live Mail today. Mail is upcoming. It does not include Maps, Music, Studio, News, or OerAlerts as live How-To products. It does not include a promise that www is network-wide ad-free. It does not include medical diagnosis in Health. It does not include Google Sheets or Google Slides branding. Docs offers Document, Spreadsheet, and Presentation cards whose work saves to Drive; those are Oernoe types inside Docs/Drive, not separate office product hosts.

## Sustainability without predatory monetization

About frames Anoepal’s role as keeping financial autonomy, dedicated infrastructure, and long-term stability without predatory user-data monetization. Infrastructure costs are real: crawling, storage, inference, support time. Free core is a product choice that has to be paid for somehow. The allowed somewhats are labeled premium, publisher ads on documents, and ordinary company revenue. The disallowed somehow is selling account or search data to advertisers for their own marketing.

That ethics line is also a product line. Engineers should be able to refuse a “just pipe queries to ads” proposal by pointing at public pages. Support should be able to explain funding without improvising. Editors should refuse slogans that collapse the lanes.

## User choices inside the lanes

Use free core only: fine. Read only www company pages and apps that exclude ads: fine. Read long guides and see ads: expected on eligible URLs; use Ads Settings if you want Google-side controls. Buy a labeled premium feature when offered: fine. File privacy@ requests regardless of premium status: required to remain possible.

## Failure modes to watch

Failure: paywalling deletion. Failure: unmarked premium. Failure: ads on login. Failure: waitlists collecting mail for unreleased Mail. Failure: claiming free means zero third parties on www. Failure: inventing user counts to justify valuation stories in the journal. Failure: implying Health is a clinic because it is free and private.

Corrections culture should catch public versions of those failures. Product QA should catch the screen-level versions.

## How this essay wants to be used

Read it beside How Oernoe funds pages without selling Search queries and beside Selected www pages may show Google ads. Free core and premium are the account-side lanes. Publisher ads are the documentation-side lane. Search privacy is the refusal that ties them together. If any lane needs to expand, expand with labels and allowlists — not with slogans.

## Closing

Free core tools and optional premium are how Oernoe stays usable without demanding a card at the door. Contextual ads on selected www documents are how documentation can pay for itself without rewriting Search. Keep the labels on premium, the allowlists on ads, and the refusal on query brokerage. That is a funding model a privacy-minded independent company can defend without hype.

## Docs and Drive inside free core

Free Docs means you can open docs.oernoe.com and start a Document, Spreadsheet, or Presentation without paying first. Autosave and “saved to Oernoe Drive” are part of that core loop. Free Drive means upload, folders, and type filters for Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, and Uploaded files within the visible quota (about 2 GB in empty-state UI). Expanded storage, if sold later, must be labeled premium — not smuggled in as a surprise after files are already trapped.

Sharing remains a permissions problem, not a payment problem. Read-only versus edit should not require a credit card. Export formats described in How-To exist so free-core users can leave with their words.

## Tracker inside free core

Tracker is a live free-core app: personal habits, daily check-ins, focus timer, reminders, and related life-tracking views. It is not a paid ops console and not a public status.oernoe.com replacement. Older blurbs that called it telemetry should not drive funding copy. Personal tracker data is account-held content for privacy requests, not ad inventory.

## Chat, AI, Health — free without becoming profiles

Chat’s private messenger UI (New Chat, Friends, Requests, Settings) stays free of AdSense. AI’s Noevik chat surfaces stay free of AdSense; prompts are not an advertising file. Health’s metrics, streaks, and challenges stay free of AdSense; ignore unverified user-count marketing in journal claims. Free core includes the right to use these tools without buying a “privacy pack.” Privacy is the default architecture story, not an upsell SKU.

## Account options without paywalls

Continue with Google or email/password signup is about convenience, not premium tiering. Username rules and reCAPTCHA are abuse controls. None of them are permission to put ads on the form. Password recovery stays ad-free. Session review and 2FA stay ad-free. Export and deletion stay available without premium cosplay.

## When premium is healthy

Premium is healthy when a user can point at a label and say yes or no. More Drive storage, higher AI usage limits if labeled, advanced collaboration seats if labeled — those are examples of shapes premium can take. Premium is unhealthy when it gates privacy rights, hides fees, or implies free users are the product via query brokerage. We refuse that shape in public funding copy.

## Publisher ads still do not replace premium honesty

If documentation ads underperform, the fix is better documents, not silent premium traps or Search selling. If premium underperforms, the fix is better optional features, not ads on login. The three lanes correct each other’s failure modes only when editors and product managers keep them named.

## Practical user reading

You can live on free core indefinitely for ordinary work: search, chat, draft a Document, store a file, log a habit, ask Noevik a question, keep wellness notes. You may see ads when you read long finished guides on www. You should see labels before you pay for more capacity. You should be able to write privacy@oernoe.com without a subscription. That is the deal worth defending.

## Closing

Free core tools and optional premium are how Oernoe stays open at the door. Tracker as a personal tracker, Docs types under their real labels, Mail still unshipped — those live facts belong in funding essays so readers are not buying a brochure. Keep premium labeled, ads allowlisted, Search queries unsold, and the core actually free.

## Independence without pretending money is optional

Independent technology companies still pay for bandwidth, storage, models, and people. Free core is a promise about access, not a claim that infrastructure is free to run. Anoepal’s job is to fund that run without predatory brokerage. Labeled premium and allowlisted publisher ads are tools for that job. Hype about never needing revenue is how “zero tracking everywhere” thinking returns. Say the costs exist. Say the refusals exist. Keep both. Users get tools at the door; documentation can earn; Search stays off the ad file.

## Support paths stay free

Broken login, missing recovery mail, and product bugs go to support@oernoe.com without a premium ticket tier. Privacy rights go to privacy@oernoe.com the same way. Independence funding that quietly funnels rights requests into paid support would be a corrections entry waiting to happen. Free core includes the right to be helped when auth breaks — slowly, by email, without a chatbot that closes the case for metrics.
