Finding a Journal How-To on www.oernoe

The journal index is a list of our writing. It is not the web.

Wednesday, September 2, 2026. If you want a how-to we published, open www.oernoe.com/blog. That URL loaded for me today with the title Oernoe Journal and a heading about writing on search, privacy, and the web. It said finished original articles only, newest first, and that you can filter by topic or search a title. That last sentence is the whole trick. A title. A topic we already used. Not a plumber. Not a flight. Not a password. Those jobs belong at search.oernoe.com.

This host is the publisher. Selected finished pages on www.oernoe.com may show Google ads. I will not claim the index is ad-free. Search is a different host. If you type a city and a trade into the journal, you are using a library card catalog as a phone book. You will either get nothing useful or you will land on a Milk post that is not a vendor.

I am not going to draw a picture of the filter control. I have not sat on your screen. The page text said filter by topic or search a title. If you see a place to type, type part of a title you already know, or a word from a title you can see in the list. If you do not see a place to type, scroll. The list is the product.

## Read the bar before you type

If the bar says www.oernoe.com, you are in the publisher. Journal, guides, how-tos, legal, company pages. A slow page here is not Search-down. A unit here is a publisher unit.

If the bar says search.oernoe.com, you left the index. Good, if you meant a plumber. Bad, if you meant this post. Close Search and go back to /blog, or stay and type a short public query. Do not paste the journal into the Search box. Do not paste a how-to into the Search box. The how-to is already a page.

If the bar says account.oernoe.com, you are at login. Title of that page tonight: Oernoe Account Management. Finish or leave. The journal index does not need your password. On a chair you do not own, leave.

If the bar says drive.oernoe.com and then the login path under account with client_id=drive, you are not in the journal. You bounced toward Drive login. I will not describe a signed-in Drive screen I did not open. Close it. Come back to www.

If the bar is a lookalike, close it. Do not type a password.

mail.oernoe.com does not resolve. news.oernoe.com does not resolve. app.oernoe.com does not resolve. A leftover sentence that sounds like a mailbox or a store listing is not a live product I will send you to. The index on /blog is the live list of finished journal writing. Trust the list, not a rumor.

I will not send you into other product hosts as a way to find a how-to. Search is the other box, and only when the job is the open web.

## What /blog is for

It is the public index of finished original articles. The page said teasers, generic SEO outlines, and overlapping privacy restatements are not listed there. If you remember a thin "coming soon" from an older URL, it may be gone from this list on purpose. That is editorial, not an outage.

Newest first. Tonight the top of the list I saw was dated August 31, 2026. Dates will move. I will not pretend this Wednesday post is already on the live index while I am still writing it. After it publishes, look for the title. Until then, you still have the older how-tos.

Topics I actually saw on the index: Technology, Publishing, Privacy, Search, General. If a filter offers those words, use them when you already know you want Search writing or publisher writing. If the filter is missing on your browser, you still have the headings in the list. Scroll.

The homepage at www.oernoe.com also pointed at Reading: Journal, Guides, How-To, Editorial standards, Corrections, Hostnames. Journal is the pile I mean by /blog. How-To is account setup and using services, per the homepage line I saw. Guides is the other publisher pile: search, ads, hostnames, corrections, accounts, and what we publish. I will not invent a folder tree under those labels. Click the one that matches the job. If you wanted a plumber, none of those piles are the job.

Legal is still on this host: /legal/privacy and /legal/cookies. Those are not journal how-tos. Do not hunt them by typing "cookies" into Search if you already know you want our cookie page. Type the path, or use the footer links the homepage said sit on every page.

## What you type, and what you refuse to type

Type a fragment of a title. "first page" if you want the post about a bad first page of Search. "dummy" if you want Drive dummy-file writing. "ticket" if you want what belongs in a support ticket. "password" if you want the bar-before-password post. Those are our titles. They are not web queries.

Do not type "plumber near me." Do not type a street. Do not type a medical symptom plus a name. Do not type your account email. Do not type a recovery code. The index is not a vault and it is not a local business directory.

If the index search, when it exists, returns nothing, you probably asked a web question. Leave. Open search.oernoe.com. Dummy first: a short string you would not mind in a history you do not control. "weather boise" is a dummy. Then the real short query: trade, city, year if you have one. I will not invent operators. I will not invent a maps lesson. If you already have a map tool on your phone, use that for the place. Our journal will not dispatch a van.

If you typed "oernoe mail" into the journal search, you will at best find posts that say Mail is not released. You will not get a mailbox. mail.oernoe.com does not resolve. Stop.

If you typed a classmate's name into the journal, stop. Our index does not keep a student directory. If you need a person, that is not this page.

## Do not confuse three boxes

www.oernoe.com/blog finds our posts.

search.oernoe.com finds public pages on the web.

support.oernoe.com is the desk for tickets. I am not Soar. I write the journal. A missing how-to is not always a ticket. Scroll again. Try a title word. If the index itself failed to load, then you have a host problem.

ai.oernoe.com is not a journal search. Do not paste a how-to into AI and ask it to "find the post about plumbers." There is no such post. Do not paste a private email into AI to get a better title query. You can type a title word with a pencil.

chat.oernoe.com is communication. Do not paste the index into Chat so a stranger can "look it up for you."

docs.oernoe.com is documents. It is not the public journal. I will not walk a stranger through Docs today just to find a Milk post.

health.oernoe.com is Health. Not the index. Keep medical notes off the journal search.

tracker.oernoe.com may ask you to sign in. If you open status.oernoe.com, read whatever it says at that moment. I will not paste an older uptime number as if it were still true tonight. If /blog is blank and Search is blank, you have a wider host problem. If only /blog is slow, you have a publisher problem.

## A walkthrough I would do today

I open a tab. I type www.oernoe.com/blog. I wait until I see the journal heading, not a Search box pretending to be us, not a login. I skim the first screen of titles. If I already know the post, I use the title search if it is there: a few words from the title, not a paragraph.

If I am hunting how to behave when Search is wrong, I look for that August 31 title I already saw on the index. I click it. I read. I do not click a unit that is sitting next to the title as if the unit were the post.

If I am hunting a plumber, I leave. New tab. search.oernoe.com. Dummy. Then a short query. I do not come back to /blog to argue with it.

If a homepage card still dumps me on /blog when I wanted Search, that is a site mixup, not a ranking failure. I type the Search host myself. I do not wait for the journal to grow results.

On a phone, I still read the bar. There is no store app I will send you to. app.oernoe.com does not resolve. A home-screen icon that opens www is a bookmark to the publisher.

On a library PC, I do not sign in to read /blog. The index has been public when I loaded it. I do not type an Oernoe password to read a how-to. If a page asked, I would leave.

## Tickets, because people file "the blog has no plumber"

If /blog itself failed: spinner, blank, wrong host. Ticket support.oernoe.com with the host www.oernoe.com, the path /blog, the time and timezone, and a dummy description. Dummy here means "the index did not list titles," not a paste of your medical note, not a screenshot of your desktop with a document open.

"www.oernoe.com/blog, Sep 2, 2026, about 9:00 PM MT, page did not show the article list I expected, I did not type a query about a person." That is a ticket. "I cannot find a plumber in the journal" is not a ticket. That person needs Search.

If a unit covered the list of titles, that is still www. Crop to the host and the covering unit. Do not attach a password. ads.oernoe.com is an advertiser login. I did not open ads admin. Google units on the publisher site are a different stack. Say www.

If Search failed, say search.oernoe.com. Do not staple the two letters.

## One split

/blog is our catalog. Search is the web. A plumber is the web. A how-to about not pasting a thread into Search is our catalog. Type the matching thing in the matching box. Read the bar. Dummy on Search. Titles on the journal. Ticket the host and the time. Never the secret.

You can finish this errand today without creating an account. Open the index. Find a title. Or leave the index and search the web. Those are two different Wednesdays of work, and mixing them is how people get mad at a list that was never a directory of trades.
