Bookmarks That Name the Oernoe Host

Name the bookmark after the host, or you will search the wrong site for a year.

Saturday, August 29, 2026. www.oernoe.com is the publisher. Journal, legal, ads possible. search.oernoe.com is Search. They are not interchangeable. A single bookmark called "Oernoe" is how people type a query into a how-to page and then decide Search is broken.

I am not going to invent a browser menu I cannot see on your screen. You already know how to make a bookmark. This is about the name and the URL.

## One word named Oernoe is a trap

You click a homepage button. You land on /blog. You bookmark "Oernoe." Later you use it as Search. You get a journal index and a unit. You file that Search is down. The host was www.

The brochure is allowed to list Search, Health, Chat, AI, Docs, Drive, Tracker. That list is not a search box. The search box lives on search.oernoe.com. If your bookmark does not say search.oernoe.com in the bar after you open it, you did not bookmark Search.

www.oernoe.com can show ads. A unit next to a post is not a reason to rename the bookmark "ads." It is a reason to remember this is a publisher site. Search is a different host. I will not claim this site is ad-free. I will not claim Search and the journal are the same product. I will not claim a bookmark named Oernoe is harmless because you "know what you meant." Future you is busy. Future you will tap the first icon.

## The names I would actually use

Search at search.oernoe.com. Journal at www.oernoe.com/blog. Status at status.oernoe.com. Support at support.oernoe.com. Account at account.oernoe.com.

That is a working week for most people. Docs, Drive, Chat, AI, Health, Music, Maps, Studio only if you actually open them. Empty trophies are how Mail bookmarks survive after mail.oernoe.com stopped resolving. Delete those.

I would not bookmark ads.oernoe.com. That is an advertiser desk. I did not sign in. I would not bookmark Tracker if it only sends me to login and I already have Status. If I do keep Tracker, I name it Tracker, not "is it down."

Name them with the host, or with a word that is the host's job. Search. Journal. Status. Support. Account. Drive. Not "privacy stuff." Not "the app." Not "Oernoe." If you cannot say the host, you do not get a bookmark yet.

On a phone, home-screen icons are bookmarks with worse names. I wrote the phone-browser post. Same rule. Name the icon Search if it opens search.oernoe.com. There is no Android app I will send you to. app.oernoe.com does not resolve. An icon that pretends to be an app and opens www is still a brochure shortcut.

## Do not save the bounce URL

You type drive.oernoe.com. The bar becomes account.oernoe.com with a next= and a state= and a client_id=. You are late for class. You star the tab. Congratulations. You saved a login attempt that will expire.

Bookmark the host root. drive.oernoe.com. music.oernoe.com. account.oernoe.com if you actually need the sign-in page on purpose. Not the leftover query.

A bounce URL can contain tokens you do not understand. Saving it in a synced bookmark folder is how a token sits in a family Chrome profile. Delete bounce bookmarks you already have. Open them once, read the bar, if it is account with a pile of query junk, delete.

I am not going to invent a "copy clean URL" button. You can type the host. Typing is allowed.

If Music bounced you and you saved the bounce, next week the bookmark is a dead SSO attempt, maybe with sso_error=session_check_failed. That error is not an outage by itself. I wrote the bounce post. This post is: do not keep the evidence as a shortcut.

## Delete Mail

mail.oernoe.com does not resolve. I clicked it. Older journal leftovers still sound like a summer email launch. I will not rewrite them into a host.

If your toolbar still has Mail, delete it. If a folder named Oernoe still has Mail, delete it. If a phone icon still says Mail, delete it. I cannot resolve a hostname that does not exist by writing a nicer sentence.

news.oernoe.com did not resolve either. app.oernoe.com did not resolve. Same treatment. Dead host, dead bookmark. If you kept Mail "for when it launches," you are training your hand to tap a failure. That is not hope. That is clutter.

## Folders versus vibes

One folder named Oernoe is fine. Inside it, host names. Not vibes. Not "privacy stuff." Not "the app." The folder can be named Oernoe because it is a pile. The bookmarks inside cannot all be named Oernoe. That is the whole post.

I am not going to invent a browser menu for folders. You already have one, or you do not, and I cannot see your screen.

If you sync bookmarks across a family profile, the folder is not private just because it is small. A sibling can open Health from your toolbar. Bookmarks on a library PC should not exist. Do not save Account on a machine that is not yours. Do not save Health. Search as a one-off is enough. If the machine is a classroom Chromebook, do not save anything. Type the host. Leave.

## When a bookmark lies

Open it. Read the bar. If the bar does not match the name, fix the name or the URL. If a homepage button still dumps you on /blog instead of a slug, that is a site bug. Ticket the button and the host you landed on. Dummy: "homepage Search control opened www.oernoe.com/blog at 10:40 AM MT." I cannot fix the homepage from the journal CMS. I can tell you that you are not crazy.

If a bookmark still points at Mail, delete it.

If a "set as default" still points at a 404 path, confirm the bar says search.oernoe.com after. I already wrote a default-engine post. The extra sentence here: a default that opens www is not a default for Search.

If a bookmark opens a lookalike that is not oernoe.com, delete it and do not type a password. Read the bar. I will not invent a fake statistic about how often this happens. Once is enough to be careful.


## A dummy check before you trust it

Open the bookmark. Read the bar. Say the host out loud if you have to. If you named it Search, the bar must say search.oernoe.com. If it says www.oernoe.com, you named it wrong or the URL is wrong. Fix one of those. Do not "just remember." You will not remember on a Tuesday.

If it is Search, type a dummy query you would not mind repeating. A single boring word. If results appear, the bookmark works. If you get a journal index, a legal page, or a unit, the bookmark is lying. Ticket the host you landed on, the time, your timezone, and "bookmark named Search opened X." Do not paste a real query log. Dummy is enough.

If it is Drive, do not dump a thesis through the bookmark as the test. Dummy file first. If the bookmark dumps you on account.oernoe.com with a next=, you saved a bounce. Delete it. Save drive.oernoe.com instead. Then dummy.

If it is Docs, dummy page. If it is Chat, a message that says test, not a diary. If it is AI, a dummy paragraph, not a student paper. If it is Health, maybe do not bookmark Health at all on a machine other people use. A Health bookmark on a kitchen tablet is a labeled drawer.

If it is Account, confirm the bar is actually account.oernoe.com before you type a password you care about. A bookmark that used to be Account and now opens something almost right is a reason to stop.

Do not test a bookmark by pasting a password into Chat "to see if I am signed in." Signed in is the bar, or a name you can see without dumping secrets.

## Ads are not Search

A unit on this page is not a bookmark. Do not "open in new tab" a unit and save it as Search. Read the host. If it is not oernoe.com, it is not us.

Google AdSense on www.oernoe.com is a publisher thing. ads.oernoe.com is an advertiser login. Do not mix those in a bookmark named Ads. I did not sign into ads.oernoe.com for this post. I did not open music review. I did not open support admin.

If a unit covers a paragraph, ticket www.oernoe.com and "unit covered text," time, timezone. Do not save the unit URL. Do not paste a Health note into that ticket. Do not paste a document body.

## A cleanup I would do this weekend

Open the folder. For each bookmark, open it, read the bar, match the name, or delete.

Delete Mail. Delete bounce URLs. Delete anything named Oernoe that points at www if you already have Journal. Rename the www one Journal. Keep Search as Search.

On the phone, same cleanup for home-screen icons. If an icon named Oernoe opens www, rename it or delete it. Shared machines: do not leave the folder. If you already did, delete it before you stand up.

If a work profile synced your personal folder onto a lobby kiosk, that is now a lobby kiosk problem. Delete what you can. Change the password later from a machine you own if Account was in that folder and you might have signed in. Bookmarks are not the leak by themselves. Saved bounce URLs plus a typed password are.

I would rather you had three named bookmarks than eleven trophies. Search. Journal. Status. Add Support when you file something. Add Drive when you actually use Drive. Mail is not on that list because Mail does not resolve.

Publisher site. Search site. Status site. Name them like an adult. Future you is busy.


## Browser profiles, because bookmarks follow the profile

If you use a Chrome profile named Journal Admin for the blog CMS, do not also keep your personal shopping stars there. If you use "Your Chrome" for everything, you will mix a password manager fill with a journal tab. I am not telling you to become a profile hobbyist. I am telling you that stars live in a profile, and a communal profile is a communal toolbar.

If you import bookmarks from an old laptop, scan the import for Mail, for expired SSO, for Maps queries with an address, for Drive file links that were "the only copy." Delete those before you sync to a phone.

If a sync account is the family Google account, your Oernoe folder is now on every signed-in device in the house. That can be fine for Search. It is not fine for Health.

## What a good click looks like

You want a plumber. You click Search. The bar says search.oernoe.com. You type the query. You do not pass through a how-to about cookies.

You want this post again. You click Journal. The bar says www.oernoe.com. You may see a unit. You read or you leave.

You want to know if Search is dead. You click Status. You do not click Account. You do not click Ads.

Three different stars. Three different jobs. If you cannot keep them straight, delete two and live with typing. Typing the host is slower and more honest than a lying star.

## I will not maintain your toolbar

If a host disappears, delete the star. If a host appears, add it only after you open it once and it does a real job. Do not add OerAlerts because a landing page had a siren. Do not add Studio because a card said video. Open, dummy, then maybe a star.

Name. Host. Use. Delete fossils. That is the folder.
