May 2026 is behind us. I am not going to keep the flyer.
August 2026. Chat is a live host: https://chat.oernoe.com. It is on the homepage set. It is one of the few names that actually appears as a row on status.oernoe.com. That does not make it Slack. That does not make it Omegle with a halo. That does not make you invisible.
The title stayed. “A new way to connect safely” is marketing. The body will not pretend Random Call shipped because the title wanted a vibe.
## What I will describe
A place you type to a person. One-to-one threads. Groups if the product shows you groups. Account controls. The same login as Search.
If you meet voice or video in the app, use it. Do not hunt for it because a March countdown had a date. I will not invent buttons.
If you meet a random-match mode, treat it as a stranger in a room. Block, report, leave. I will not advertise a feature I cannot confirm from this desk.
## What “safely” is allowed to mean
You can tell who you are talking to.
You can find the thread tomorrow.
You can mute, block, or leave.
You can lock the account that is doing the talking.
If those four are shaky, stickers will not save the product.
Safely does not mean the other person cannot screenshot you. Safely does not mean a court cannot compel an operator. Safely does not mean encryption unless the product page says so in a sentence I can quote. This post will not invent a cryptography guarantee.
The other person is the main privacy event. I can write careful sentences about servers. A human can still forward the chat.
## How to start without a tour
Create an account at https://www.oernoe.com/signup if you don’t have one. Unique password. Email you still read.
Open https://chat.oernoe.com. If it bounces through account.oernoe.com, that is normal.
Message someone who already agreed to try it. Do not advertise a new handle to strangers on day one.
Skip Chat on week one if nobody you talk to is there. That is a success. You can live on Search.
Pick a display name you can say out loud to support. Don’t put your school plus your phone in it.
## What not to put in a thread
Tokens. Backup codes. Someone else’s data. A Health note because Health felt far away. A Drive link that is wider than you think.
Don’t paste a password reset. Use mail for mail.
Don’t treat Chat as the only disk. Files go to Drive. Long drafts go to Docs. AI drafts are not your judgment just because you forwarded them.
## Random Call, because the old post made it the star
The March family of posts wanted an Omegle-shaped mode with a friend requirement to reduce bots. I will not say that mode is live. I will not say it is cancelled. I will say: stranger chat is a moderation problem first and a growth trick second.
If you ever use a random mode here or anywhere, assume recording. Assume a scam. Don’t show a room number. Don’t read a login code out loud. Swipe away faster than you are polite.
We should not need a friend-gate in a blog post to explain that bots exist. If the product still asks you to add a friend first, that is a product rule. Follow the screen. I will not invent the threshold.
## Voice and video, same honesty
I have not sat on a group call with screen sharing this morning. Older copy promised it. If the call button is missing, it is missing. Use the phone you already have. Do not wait for Oernoe to become FaceTime.
A “mobile app” for Chat is in the same bucket as the Search Android app. Use the mobile site. Don’t install a lookalike from a store search.
## How Chat sits next to the rest
Search: you do not owe a thread every link you found.
Docs: if the thing will be edited, move it. Threads hide the current version.
Drive: send a file on purpose.
AI: don’t launder a model paragraph through Chat as if it were you.
Health: different host for a reason.
News: news.oernoe.com does not resolve. You will not get breaking-story pings from a feed we do not run.
Studio: the live Studio host is an image and video editor, not a writing classroom. Don’t expect Studio comments to arrive as Chat cards just because a stub said “integrated deeply.”
Mail: not a host. Chat is not SMTP.
## Account and abuse
Same password rules as the rest of the company. The inbox you used to sign up is the real key. If someone sits in that inbox, they can often finish a reset.
If you see a message you did not send, change the password from a machine you trust. Sign out other sessions if that control exists. Write support@oernoe.com with times. Don’t send the password.
If someone is abusive, use the tools you can see. If the tools fail, write us. Don’t paste a third person’s life into the ticket. Describe it.
Staff will not ask for your password. Staff will not ask you to install remote-control software.
## Status and help
status.oernoe.com lists Chat. Glance there if the product looks dead. Then try a private window. Then write support with the URL and time.
support.oernoe.com can open a ticket. The article shelves were empty when I last looked. This page is doing some of that job.
Tracker may want a login. Status is public. Two doors.
## Ads, policy, kids
The journal may show ads. Chat is an application host. The current policies say AdSense is not supposed to load there. Queries are a Search topic. Chat messages are account data. We do not sell account information. Details: https://www.oernoe.com/legal/privacy.
Oernoe is not directed at children under 13. Don’t hand a logged-in Chat tab to a classroom as a toy.
## What I want from Chat next, without a calendar
Findable block and report.
A display name you can change.
A session list when something feels off.
Less launch language about random video.
A help article that is not this journal post.
I will not thank you for waiting for May. The host is already there. Use it if you have a person. Ignore it if you don’t. That is a complete use of the company.
## Groups, if you ever see one
A group is a room with more than one other memory in it. Anything you type can leave through any member. Treat a group like email CC. If you would not put it on a poster, don’t put it in a twelve-person thread.
If you can set roles, look at them before you paste a file. I will not invent the labels. If you cannot tell who can invite the next person, the group is unfinished even if the bubbles look fine.
Leave when the joke turns. You do not owe a room your time because you were polite on Tuesday.
## Shared computers and notifications
A logged-in Chat tab on a cafe machine is a megaphone. Sign out. Close the window. Don’t save the password in that browser.
Notifications are useful and also how a roommate learns who you talk to. If the phone shows message previews on a lock screen, that is an OS setting, not an Oernoe virtue. Turn previews off if the messages are not for the bus.
We will not pretend we can remote-wipe a screenshot.
## What older Chat posts on this journal already did
There is a May 18, 2026 launch post still in the archive. There is a longer August piece that treats Chat as a communication service without the trumpet. I am leaving those URLs alone. This slug was the “Random Call” cousin. If you arrived from a search result that still says spring beta, the result is stale.
I am not deleting the May post today. I am telling you it is a countdown that already rang.
## A short script if you only have ten minutes
Minute 0: open the host. Minute 1: confirm you know which account you are in. Minute 2: send one boring sentence to a person who expects it. Minute 4: find that sentence again. Minute 6: look for block or mute. Minute 8: sign out and sign in once. Minute 10: stop.
If you skip the sign-out test, you do not have Chat. You have a tab.
If the boring sentence never arrives, write support with both usernames and the time. Don’t write “Chat is broken” and leave.
## Closing
Connect, if you want, with people who are actually here. Safe, if you mean locks and leave buttons, not invisibility. New, only in the sense that the host is ours. The rest is ordinary messaging, which is hard enough.
