Oernoe Studio in August 2026: Images and Video, Not a Writing App

This URL promised a distraction-free writing canvas. Headings, comments, Public / Unlisted / Draft, a publish button into “Oernoe’s network.” The post even cut off mid-sentence.

I opened https://studio.oernoe.com. The page I got was not a writer. It offered a new image project and a new video project. Crop, resize, cut, trim, a timeline. Recent projects, still loading.

August 2026. I am retitling this. Same slug so old links don’t die. If you came here to draft an essay, you want https://docs.oernoe.com. If you came here to keep a file, you want Drive. If you came here because an old card said Studio was the blog, I’m sorry. We wrote that card.

## What Studio is, in the build I saw

An editor for images and videos. A place to create a project. A recent list.

That is a real job. It is not the job the title used to sell.

I will not narrate a full toolbar I did not sit with for an hour. I will not invent export formats. I will not invent collaboration cursors. If you open it and you see those, use them. If you don’t, they are not promised by this journal anymore.

## What I will not tell writers

I will not tell you to assign a document title and invite classmates. That speech belongs to Docs. There is already a longer post about collaborative documents. There is a second Studio slug on this journal that used to give “collaboration tips for students.” I’m rewriting that one too.

I will not tell you Public / Unlisted / Draft will put your essay on a network. That was a publishing fantasy taped onto the wrong host.

I will not tell you Studio autosaves your novel. If autosave exists for a video project, that is a media project.

## A first hour if you actually wanted media

Open https://studio.oernoe.com. Sign in with the account you already have. Don’t create a second identity.

Start one image project with a picture you can afford to lose. Crop it. See if you can download the result. Then stop.

Or start one video project with a short clip you shot. Trim a second off the front. See if export exists. If export is missing, you learned the product’s edge. Write support@oernoe.com with the project type and the time. Don’t write “Studio isn’t Word.” We know.

Don’t import a wedding archive on day one. Small editors eat large files and then sit.

## How this sits next to Docs and Drive

Docs: words. Sharing a document is as serious as sending it.

Drive: the pile. A finished export can live there. A raw clip can live there too. I would still keep a copy that is not us.

Studio: the workbench, if the workbench opens. The workbench is not the archive.

Chat is not a comment thread for an essay. AI can draft a caption. You still have to look at the image.

Search will not replace a timeline.

## Super beta, and other archive words

Older getting-started posts called Studio “super beta” and also called it a writing tool and, in one place, a music/photo/video suite. That scatter is the problem. A product description is a promise. We promised three products under one noun.

I will describe the host I can open. Image and video. If the host later becomes a writer, we can write a new post. We should not keep the writer costume while the buttons say crop.

## Privacy and files you should not feed it

A project is account data. We do not sell account information. Application hosts are not supposed to load the journal’s AdSense script. Details: https://www.oernoe.com/legal/privacy

Don’t upload other people’s IDs “to crop the background.” Don’t upload a medical photo because Health felt far away. Don’t upload a clip you don’t have rights to and then ask us to host the fight.

A public link, if you ever get one, is a publication. Look at the control.

The journal may show ads. Studio should not have to.

## Students, briefly

If your class wanted a shared paper, Docs. If your class wanted a poster, maybe Studio, maybe not. Try one image. If the editor is too thin, use the tool the school already paid for. You do not owe us a workaround.

If your class wanted a video essay, same test. One clip. Then decide.

Don’t put a grade-bearing project only here until you have exported once.

## Phones

The mobile browser will be cramped. A timeline on a phone is a punishment. Use a computer if you can. There is no official Studio app I will send you to. There is no official Search app either.

## What the leftover sentence about publishing was trying to do

Someone wanted a path from draft to public URL inside the company. The honest path we have for words is: write in Docs, and if you publish on this journal, that is a different, staff-side system. You cannot assume Studio publishes to /blog. You cannot assume Docs does either.

If you need a public essay, use a host that already publishes. Don’t wait for an Unlisted toggle we advertised on the wrong product.

## Status, support, and the empty shelves

status.oernoe.com has not always named Studio. If Studio is down and Status is quiet, say so. support.oernoe.com can take a ticket. The library was empty when I looked.

Don’t file a writing-feature request on this slug and expect a canvas. File it as Docs, or say you opened Studio and found an image editor. Accurate tickets get farther.

## Why I changed the title

Because a title that says “writing and publishing tool” is a product description. Product descriptions that don’t match a host are how people wait. We already did that with Mail and with the Android app. Studio was the quieter version of the same mistake.

Discover, if you want, the editor that is there. Discover Docs if you wanted words. I will not sell you a canvas I cannot click.


## Rights, watermarks, and the clip you found

If you did not shoot it and you did not buy it, don’t upload it to see “what the crop does.” Small hosts get used as fences for stolen media. We then spend the week on tickets instead of the editor.

A watermark is not a license. A screenshot of a movie is not fair because you added text.

If Studio ever offers stock, read that license. I will not invent a stock library.

## Performance, because timelines lie

A browser editor will feel fine on a still and heavy on a long clip. That is your machine as much as ours. Close the extra tabs. Don’t encode three exports at once and then file “Studio is down.”

If the page says Loading projects and never stops, wait once, reload, then write support with the browser. Client-rendered apps look empty before they look real. They also sometimes stay empty.

## How I want this host described on the homepage

“Image and video projects” is enough. Not creative powerhouse. Not writing. Not music production, even though an older post tried that too. Music has its own host.

If the homepage still says writing, believe the host. Then make us fix the tile. There is a whole essay on this journal about clear product descriptions. This slug was exhibit B.

## A last practical split

Words: Docs. Files at rest: Drive. Pictures and clips you are actively changing: Studio, if it opens. Search: the web. Chat: a person. AI: a draft you will edit. Studio is not a synonym for “create.” We used it that way. I’m stopping.
